Animated Short – Submission

This is my animation short:

As you can see there is some good arcs and squash and stretch but overall i feel as though i have not done the best for this project as i planned it very well but it was way to complex. The rig what i used for the snake didn’t work the best but i did manage to make it look okay at the start.

I did a lot of planing before i done this as i wanted to make sure i did well but that wasn’t the case as i think i spent to much time trying to plan what to do. I did a mood board for my animation and i also created some story boards to plan it out at the beginning it was going really well as i made sure that the rig and the hierarchy was good.

I made as story board just because i thought if i planned it out well it would of been more easier to do and make with it being on paper. However this wasn’t the case as the animation was far too much. Another big problem i was having was when i was making the snake go up the tree even if i tried to make it slither round the tree it would start rotating but as it would rotate it would also flip and spin and i couldn’t fix it. I tried changing some settings but even that didn’t work so i had to leave it.

Overall i don’t think animation is my strong point i still give it a go as i can always get better by practicing this and preparing for my next animation.

When i figured out i couldn’t finish it then i decided i would make another animation with the same camera lighting as the short animation.

Other animation:

This is something what i spent my time on though just hand in if anything went wrong with the animation short which it did. This is my animation of a boat but instead of making it float on the water i give it animal like movement such as a fish or a whale. Making the boat look childish by speeding up at the end and shaking side to side at the beginning.

As you can see in this one i have really worked on it and i have added lots of exaggeration and arcs. i also made the bottom of the floor animate so both of them move as if it was actually on the top of the water. I really like the idea of this animation and it is different to other ideas and a bit more simpler to make.

My first animation was only 2 seconds long as this was eight so at least i have made up for my first animation and i wanted to make sure it was good. Overall i think for this animation it is more creative and moves really cool and i have added some secondary action and anticipation when the boat rears up and goes forwards quite fast.

 

 

Compare and Contrast

This is a perfect example of strong and weak but they are both the same person when Bruce is just a person he is just as strong as the average man and the same build. When Brucer becomes the Hulk you can see the difference straight away in the height the strength and the personality of him.

As we can see this is completely different such as the normal character in Borderlands is quite weak but the bosses are strong and bigger.

 

Substance Painter – Rendering

Today I have finished creating my character on substance painter, I finished making my character using Photoshop to create a suit using patterns and I imported them straight through. I then used masks to make the pattern work well with other colours and I adjusted some of the design patterns.

When you look at the head of the character you can see by the images it looks like he has a visor on as the front of it is not visible but when you look from the sides you can see his eye. The pattern I went for was like a super hero look such as marvel like Spiderman and dead pool.

I used the Iray renderer to get these images and they look really good as it makes him stand out I did have a background environment. I removed the environment image so it looked more professional with just the character showing.

 

 

My Weapon Project

This is my final designs and built up models for my weapons as you can see i have spent a lot of time making and designing these. I didn’t find the modelling hard at all because wants i had drawn my concept ideas it was already there in my head how i would make this and what tools i would use.

To make this consisted of a lot of edge loops and extruding this took time but eventually i managed to make and i beveled the designs to make it look nice and smooth this makes it look good and aesthetically pleasing. The only thing i am really struggling with is the unwrapping especially when i have not done much of it at all but i am trying my best to get it done. the geometry of these designs has made it very difficult to unwrap. I have kept it as quads as much as i can with a few triangles as the faces so i am hoping i can get this unwrapped.

Solo Game – Levels

Scene 1

Scene 2

I have designed 2 levels for my game, you don’t have full control over the character you can only change the gravity to make him go up or down. I have made all the blocks and the players the same style as i want to make the game look good. I have used scripts to the spikes as enemy’s. I have made the game simple to play but also fun because you don’t have that much control of your character making it more challenge to players.

As you can see i have made a simple game where you can’t turn left you can only keep moving right there isn’t really any enemy’s other than the world itself such as the spike walls and the way the game forces you to keep moving. So the game forces you to react quickly when you see a gap or spikes. I really like this style of game as it make it fun and allows the player to challenge others. I have also added a timer to challenge yourself and others on how quick you can do levels and i might add some sort of boost pad to make the time last etc.

Substance Painter

SP Character

Today I have been learning tools on substance painter, it is very similar to Photoshop and has a range of materials you can use and select. I have used different types of brushes in the lesson and created an eye for my character using them. I also have been using different types of materials and changing the roughness of them to make them look more metallic or more plastic.

I was finding this new software quite difficult to find certain things such as the making new layers, but once I started to experiment and click different buttons I started to realise that the layout of everything was similar to Photoshop so I started getting the hang of it.

I like how when you apply a mask on the character or models that you can change and modify pretty much everything if it starts to look unpleasing you can easily adjust the way the colours are or the materials it is.

2D – Platform Animation

Script Controller

I have been putting animations into my game and created some code for the game as well to allow the character to do various movements such as runing and jumping. I will have to redo this again though as my character was not put onto a sheet so I could not animate my character so I used just an example one. This allowed me to understand what I was doing.

On the script I had to put if the jumping and running was true and false if it was doing certain animation one would have to be false and one could be true. What I found difficult was when I had to add the animations into the scene as some of my settings were wrong so I had to correct them before correct it.

Weapon Project – Modelling

Today I have started modelling my Japanese version of a sickle and so far I am really doing well on extruding and bevelling the model. I had some difficulties making the handle but after researching and using the edge loop I managed to curve the handle really well. I have made some adjustments to the sickle, I changed the handle and modified it and also I changed my design of the top of the scythe.

The next part I will need to do is make the blade of the scythe and the metal chain attached to the end of the handle to make the chain I will only have to make so much of it and hopefully I will be able to duplicate the rings of the chain to create it. So far I have kept the design nice and smooth.

Wants I have made the chain I wont be making the shoulder holster until I have finished designing the spear which I have created concept art for on paper. I like the idea of being different as most people are doing a sword a shield but I do different it also shows off my creativity.

Short Animation – Production

The Scene Of Animation

Today I have added all of my assets into the same scene and made the branch for the scene as well. I first extruded the branch and then disconnected then I need to create a pivot for the branch and move it down in the animation. I had one problem with the snake where the snake would always be stuck in one position through the animation I have fixed this by arranging the hierarchy in a different order so it should be working properly from now on. I have also connected the apple to the branch so when it falls it can fall with the branch. When disconnecting the branch I also had to delete the deformer history just to make sure that nothing bad happens were it bugs out through the animation.

Giff of Blocking #1

I am starting to block out the movement on the screen the improvements I need to do is make the snake movement more S shaped also to finish off blocking the slithering across the screen. After this I will be making then snake do the same movement back across the screen and go up the tree. I will be smoothening the movement wants it is all blocked out and complete but I want to at least complete the moving before smoothing.

Animation Render Camera 1

I have finished my lighting for the scene and set up my camera, I have done my 3 point lighting and set up a infinite white background. To do this I set up 3 directional lights which were the Key this was my main light, then I had a light opposite the main light which had less intensity to create a more lighter shade. Also I made another light for the background to create more of a feel for the shading on the back of the objects.

The camera was set up directly in front of the assets I am not sure if I want to change the way it looks and put it on more of a slight angle. To make the infinite white background I had to change the environment colour to the same as the background.
