Planning Level Design

I have been doing some level planning for my game what I am going to make, it will have 3 tutorial levels to get the hang of the controls. These tutorials will give a little introduction to the game and give some sort of idea of what they will need to do to play.

For the first tutorial I will be adding a cave with some planks barricading the door way of the cave it will have the end of the level which will be the goal inside. This will want to lure you towards the cave and you will of figured out that the player will have movement but and a weapon in his hand. There will be no items to pick up to destroy the barricade so then the player will figure out the attack button.

Level two will introduce a new mechanic which will be a jump and there will a gap you need to jump over it is totally fine if you miss as there is no threat. So if the player does fall he can always remember next time what to do.

Level three will be adding some danger as instead there will be a drop which the player will have to surpass. If the player doesn’t make the jump then he will have to restart the game from the same level and not from the beginning.  The drop will have lava in and you will not be able to jump out of the pit wants your in it so it will have some sort of threat.

Animation Short – Assets

Today I have created my assets for the animation all I need now is the branch on the  side of the tree and to make it have its own character set o make it a fall. I have been making low poly designs and used the harden tool on mesh tools to make it look more different to other designs as I usually stick to the smoothen tool.

I was also creating a character set for my snake which I didn’t understand how to do it but I figured it out once I selected all of the sections of the body. So now will need to create a branch and put the apple on it. This will allow me to start blocking out my animation and put all of my assets on the same scene. But before I put the assets into the scene I will have to add textures or colour to them as I want the scene to look good and stand out.

I also fixed my hierarchy for my character as it was all aligned in the wrong order now it works properly and I can continue with what I need to do.

Secret Room – Assignment

When I was creating my secret room I decided I was going to make a basement it isn’t fully finished but I have some assets, I have textured and UV mapped some boxes and some walls. I also Finished most of my assets I was going to try and texture my room but I just focused on filling up the corridor and the inner room.

Overall I think I have done really well on this project as you didn’t have to UV map but I felt like I needed to have that extra practice so that’s why I have done it. one thing what I don’t like is I have made the rooms to big, It would of been better if I just made one big room and moved everything into it. I feel like the assets I have used are different as you can see have a basement window, cups, bowls ,etc. but then I also spent some time working o a generator and shelves.

Transferring My 2D Image Into Maya

Maya Robot Image

Today I have been transferring my 2D image from Photoshop into Maya, I exported it as an image and used this to create my model of the robot parts. I have started making the middle of the robot now as you can see where there shading is this is were I need to model as well. I am now going to make it detailed once I have added the final pieces of the robot.

I had no problem when doing this and now I know how to import my 2D image I was going to import my 3D one, but I didn’t want to work with that. So I decided the image would be best as I don’t have to create a new one or use the 3D one. I have use mainly the extrusion tool to make the body of the robot. I also have used the bevel tool to make the boosters on the bottom of the drone.

Animation Ideas

This is the link for the powerpoint the slides are also below:

Animation - Asset List

So far I have a clear idea of what I want to do for the animation and I have planned it out well. Now will have to find some audio and I will also have to model out the branches, tree, and apple. I am also going to make it when the snake goes of the branch to get the apple the branch will snap and the snake will stay in the air for a while. It will then drop and hit the ground and I could exaggerate when he is in the air. I have also been planning to add some audio into the scene as well.

Blog Task – Sound Design

Sound design is a big aspect in the game industry this is because without sound a game just isn’t very interactive with the player. If every game was silent it wouldn’t be vary good at all when a game is played there is many sound affects. There is a range of sound effects for the games which make the game more uplifting and it doesn’t just feel boring.

For some examples of sound here are some of the most remembered sounds from video games.

Super Mario Bros:

Sonic Overdrive:

Splinter Cell:

Script Coding and Problem Solving

Today I have been coding and using scripts for a seeking mine and also a script for a door what opens when you get close to it. They both have a radius when they are activated but I was having a problem solving the door script. I fixed the problems with the mine script which was that there was 2 errors.

There is two types of errors which are a syntax error and a semantic.

Syntax error: It is basically the error what is written in the sequence, it must be correct if you want to be successful and work.

Semantic error: Writing program logic that’s incorrect when the instructions are executed.

Creating 3D Art

Today I have been creating mechanical drawings of robots which had to be put into 3D and make the side view look 3D. It was really cool there was 2 ways you could do this in Photoshop such as using a line tool, shading in black random parts and turning it into a mechanical robot. Also the last one was to use the paint tool and use lines to create a robot.

Here are some Drawings which I done.

This is some of the designs I done I then had to create a black silhouette of the robot and put it into the 3D mode.

Character Rigging And Deformers

Snake HierarchyToday I have been using pivots and learning about deformers also character sets as well. I made some changes to my pivot points and I have connected all of the pivots so when the snake moves it is all in the right positions. Now I need to properly group the hierarchy so they all move in sync as the children will follow the parents.

Snake Model

When rigging this character I had to make sure that the pivots were all in place with the other parts of the body. I am going to use deformers to make the snake squash and stretch when moving up and down and side to side. I like my character because all though it simple and low poly it will still look good in the animations.

Deformers are basically when you add divisions or edge loops to an object the deformer will allow the object to bend, curve, squash, etc. They are really good to use as it can add a lot of exaggeration in animation.

Adding Audio To My Pachinko

BFXR

I have been using a website to create audio sounds for my game.

https://www.bfxr.net/

I had to use the samples of what audio noise you wanted such as an explosion, it would give you a sample of the noise and you could change all of it to create your own sounds. I had to make some sounds what work well in my game, it had to be catchy and allow the player to feel as though that is the right sound for the game.

I had to export it from this website and I then put it into unity, I created a script so that it would play the audio when it hit the goal and the pegs. I need to make some more audio for one the game starts and also when you win, or lose.
